The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is a historic monument located in Alexandria, Virginia. The design of the 86,000 gsf building was inspired by the Lighthouse of Alexandria in Egypt. The memorial is a mixed-use temple including exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, an amphitheatre, and dining halls.
Olshesky Design Group provided Architectural services including space planning, interior design, code analysis, permit drawings, and ADA handicap accessibility improvements. AHistoric Renovation was a key factor, and all of ODG’s designs were sympathetic to the historic nature of this project.
Interior space planning included new offices, a new museum space dedicated to George Washington, and new elevators for ADA compliance. Work included coordinating existing mechanical and electrical systems with the new design for the relocated offices, new museum space, and new elevators.
Exterior design work included a new ADA handicap accessible ramp for the northern approach, improving accessibility to the memorial’s most commonly used entrance.
