The new Airborne Parachute Maintenance Facility at Aviano Air Force Base is intended to support the transformation of the US Army in Aviano, Italy. The 40,609 gsf facility includes a drying tower, packing area, parachute repair and maintenance area, secure storage, supply storage, shipping and staging space, and a covered loading area. Site improvements include sidewalks, earthwork, grading, and new storm drainage. A separate parking lot and a pedestrian walkway lined with native trees was included in this project. The total cost is estimated at $5.6 million.
ODG provided LEED consulting services to an Italian architecture firm. The ODG Team reviewed the natural resources of the site, prepared energy models, completed ASHRAE forms, and recommended alternative energy, material resources, native plantings, indoor air equipment, and water saving strategies. ODG’s recommendations enabled this project to achieve LEED Silver. ODG’s key strategies include achieving 30% energy savings and achieving 55% water savings. These strategies take advantage of the local climate to help meet the client’s goals for design sustainability while maintaining the desired character of both the region and the base.
