St. Mary’s Hospital expanded to include a 40,000 gsf addition, a 22,000 gsf renovation, and a 3,000 gsf courtyard. Ms. Olshesky met with user groups at the beginning of the project to determine their needs for the new healthcare departments. Departments located in the renovated hospital include outpatient surgery and the recovery and administration suites. Cardiopulmonary, Nuclear Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Emergency departments are located in the new addition.
Architectural work involved designing and developing construction drawings and selecting interior finishes. Landscaping work included designing a new courtyard with a fountain, vegetation and paving. The courtyard was placed next to the cafeteria to create a relaxing natural environment. Both the addition and renovation were phased so the hospital could remain occupied and functional during construction. The project was completed in 1995 and cost an estimated $6.5 million. Ms. Olshesky served on the architectural team leading the St. Mary’s Hospital project from programming through construction administration.
