Locust Street Residence Historic Renovation and Addition

ODG is designing the addition to and leading the complete renovation of an existing 3,420 gsf historic residence dating back to 1876. This is a design-build project. Services include initial feasibility studies, historic renovation, interior design, LEED consultation, cost estimates, value engineering cost studies, landscape design, and meetings with the Cambridge Historic Preservation Commission, the Maryland Historic Trust, and the Cambridge City Public Works Department.

As LEED consultants, ODG found innovative ways to incorporate sustainable and disaster resilient systems into the project without damaging the historical character of the house. For example, the wood structure has been repaired and reinforced with hurricane ties. The brick foundation was rebuilt to match the original as closely as possible. Solar panels will be installed at a low slope to provide backup emergency power. Storm windows will be installed on the interior to increase the efficiency of the building envelope. Shutters will be installed to protect the house from the high winds that are prevalent on the peninsula. The house is located on high ground, out of the floodplain zone. This project is ongoing.
